Oglesby Junior High football falls to Abbott, 62-26

The Oglesby Junior High Tiger football team fell to the Abbott Panther junior high football team by the score of 62 to 26 on Thursday, Sept. 19.

There were several bright spots for the young Tigers, who managed to put up 26 points against the older, more physical Abbott Panther team.

Brody Martinez had an excellent night for the Tigers and carried the ball eight times for 96 yards rushing, including a 75-yard touchdown run from the first-place scrimmage. Martinez added a point-after-touchdown (PAT), making the score Abbott 8 and Oglesby 7. He also added a 50-yard kickoff return for another Tiger touchdown. Plus, an extra 25-yard kickoff return to put the ball in Panther territory. Martinez ended the night with 173 total yards, 2 touchdowns, and one PAT.

Caiden Brinkley was close behind, carrying the ball six times for 125 yards rushing, including one 45-yard touchdown run. Brinkly added a 40-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and ended the night with 165 total yards and two touchdowns.

Liam Standridge scored one PAT.

Hunter Insall had one carry for five yards.  

Defensively for the Tigers

Caiden Brinkley had two tackles, AJ Mafra had two tackles, Brody Martinez had two tackles, Liam Standridge had one tackle, Ranger Jeffcoat had one tackle, and Hunter Insall had one tackle and one fumble recovery. 

The Tigers traveled to Coolidge on Sept. 26 to play against the Coolidge Yellowjackets. Results from the game will be published in the Saturday, Oct. 5 edition of The Gatesville Messenger.
