The Oglesby Tigers traveled to Priddy on Friday, Nov. 22, to play the 10-1 Cherokee Indians in the Area Championship game. Both teams were able to score fast and often, however, in the end, the Tigers proved to be too much for the Indians.
The Tigers’ offense was hitting on all cylinders, and Cherokee had no answers for the speed and quickness for Kyler Fossett.
Fossett carried the ball 23 times for an amazing 518 yards and 10 touchdowns. And if that wasn’t enough, he was 1/2 in passing for 40 yards and scored one touchdown. Fossett scored 60 points on the night and is starting to play on another level, proving he is amongst the top running backs in six-man football. He is living up to the pre-season six-man player of the year.
Jakson Tippit is continuing to improve with each game carrying the ball seven times for 88 yards and scoring two touchdowns while ending the night with 103 total yards.
Alex Castillo had an outstanding night as well for the Tigers. He continued his efficiency as a place kicker, making 13/15 for 26 points. He was 2/3 in passing for 40 yards. He also had one 10-yard catch for a touchdown. Castillo ended the night with 55 yards.
Hunter Ewing had two receptions for 42 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown reception.
Jack Hendricks had one reception for 22 yards.
Holdyn Goff had a long ball thrown to him in the end zone, and Cherokee was called for pass interference, giving Tigers the ball at the one-yard line, which they quickly converted for touchdown. Goff was 1/1 in passing for 25 yards.
A special shout out to the offensive lineman as they were exceptional at blocking. Among the linemen: Hunter Ewing, Jack Hendricks, Holdyn Goff, and Kayson Campbell. The linemen opened up holes all night long.
Defensively the Tigers played on another level, swarming the Indians offense throughout the night.
Jack Hendricks was a beast all over the field with 18 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Holdyn Goff had 12 tackles. Kayson Campbell had 10 tackles. Jakson Tippit had 10 tackles and two interceptions. Alex Castillo had five tackles and one fumble recovery. Aiden Oxford had four tackles. Abram Shaw had one tackle, and Kyler Shaw had one tackle.
Points for the night:
Kyler Fossett, 60 points
Alex Castillo, 38 points
Jakson Tippit, 12 points
Hunter Ewing, six points
Total: 116 points
The Tigers will play Richland Springs for the Quarterfinals Championship, which is to be determined.
