Newcomers and returnees enjoyed the Pearl Bluegrass event

Posted

It was a great day in Pearl on Feb. 1, per the many glowing reports I received this past weekend. Lots of newcomers as well as many returnees enjoyed the Pearl Bluegrass event and the Pearl Cottage Bookstore Day. Just a few of the many who came to play on the stage and jam in the wonderful classrooms at the Pearl Community Center included Rachel and Larry Bates, Hiram Solis, House Arrest, On Fire for Christ, Raymie and Friends, and Eileen Mitchell. The next Pearl Bluegrass event and Pearl Cottage Bookstore Day is March 1. Trust me, you do not want to miss it! Be sure and plan your day at the Pearl Community Center to include eating in the Bluegrass Kitchen and shopping at the Pearl Cottage Bookstore. You never know who you might see in Pearl, and there’s no place like it.

The Pearl Church of Christ is preparing for the annual Valentine Auction, which takes place Feb. 9 immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. If you would like to donate auction items, please drop them off at the church. Auction items are out now, and bidding is welcome anytime you can drop by the church. Everyone is invited to participate as this auction funds scholarships for local students and for His Kids. His Kids scholarships are in the honor and memory of Richard Williams, the founder of that wonderful group. The church is very thankful for your generous bids and donations!

The Pearl Church of Christ also had a wonderful day on Feb. 2, as they had an attendance of 40 family members and friends. They also surprised Richard with a birthday party after the services, and everyone enjoyed the delicious food prepared by Kay Pruett for the occasion. Richard was so surprised, and everyone had a wonderful time. Happy birthday, Richard!

I must update you on my talented grandchildren, and I mean I just have to! My 11-year-old granddaughter was just selected to play on a traveling basketball team this spring: East Texas Reign. She competed against hundreds of other girls across East Texas for a spot on the team and boy did she shine. This little spitfire also had two great runs in the last rodeos she competed in, earning money, points, and ribbons in breakaway and ribbon roping. (I’d love to say she takes after her Grammie, but too many of you remember me from grade school in Gatesville and recall that I was the one that was always chosen last. No, I cannot walk and chew gum at the same time to this very day.) The three younger grands, ages five, eight, and nine, are competing in swim competitions in Central Texas, and they are also doing fantastic in their events. My eight-year-old granddaughter is also playing basketball and loving it. (And, no, they did not get their swimming ability, horsemanship, or ball skills from this Grammie as this grandmother still cannot swim a stroke, throw a ball, or ride a horse!) Fortunately, my four grands have very talented, athletic moms and dads, and they passed their athleticism on to these dynamos. We are all very thankful for that, especially me. Whew!

This week’s Bible verse comes from Hebrews 10:23—Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. NIV
