From a young age, Johnny embraced his love for the outdoors. He began bow and gun hunting early in life and continued throughout his years.
As a young rancher, he also enjoyed rodeoing with his beloved horse, Coco. Golf brought some humor into his life; after deciding it wasn't for him, he repurposed golf balls for target practice with his bow.

In 1987, Johnny graduated from Rhema Bible College and fulfilled his calling by founding and pastoring New Hope Christian Center for six years in Gatesville.
He was also a professional bass fisherman, champion varmint caller, professional trapper, and bird dog trainer. Training dogs was his greatest joy, and he cherished his time working with them.
In later years, Johnny achieved a longtime goal by completing his life story, "Tales of Tooter ~ Life, Hunting, Fishing & Law Enforcement."
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sally Koester; his two daughters, Pamela Koester (Charles Arnold), of Phoenix, AZ, and Wendy Carson, of Broken Arrow, OK; and his cherished grandson, Dr. Joshua Santucci (Raychal Santucci), of New Jersey.
