On Saturday, March 15, Governor Greg Abbott promoted the strong, conservative priorities for the 89th Legislative Session during his keynote address at the Coryell County Republican Party Lincoln/Reagan Dinner held at the Texas Station Events Center in Gatesville.
Speaking to a crowd of over 200 Republicans and supporters, Governor Abbott highlighted the critical work Texas has done—and continues to do—to secure the southern border, including building a border wall, deploying thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers, and installing floating marine barriers in the Rio Grande River to deny illegal entry. The Governor then lauded President Donald Trump’s ongoing homeland and border security efforts and spotlighted the partnership between Texas and the Trump Administration to arrest, jail, and deport illegal immigrants in the state.
In the opening of his speech, Governor Abbott said, “I want to thank Coryell County for providing to keep Texas red and supporting Republican values – doing your part to ensure we will never turn into California here in the State of Texas.”
In speaking of Coryell County, Governor Abbott spoke of the effects of the lack of water residents might face. He said, “One key item for this legislative session that affects every family, including right here in Coryell County, is water. Last session, we invested a billion dollars in water projects and infrastructure. This session we will make the largest investment in water in the history of our state by tapping into new water supplies and repairing pipes to save billions of gallons of water each year. Texas will be truly peerless in a few months. Together, we will maintain our status as the greatest state in the greatest country in the history of the world.” Speaking about the border, Governor Abbott said, “The border was the issue according to Donald Trump in the presidential election. No state has done what the State of Texas has done. Texas is the only state to ever build our own border wall; it’s the exact same wall that President Trump put up, but with one difference: Texas has built more of the Trump wall than Trump built in the State of Texas.”
Praising Coryell County Republicans, Governor Abbott said, “I also want to thank Coryell County for everything y’all did in this past election and in two elections ago. Coryell County, you did your part, you gave 71% to help me crush and destroy O’Rourke. You helped Donald Trump destroy Kamala Harris with 70% of the vote.”
Just before closing his speech, Governor Abbott once again addressed the residents of Coryell County by saying, “I want to thank everyone here, because by being here, you’re supporting your local Republican Party. You are doing your part to keep Coryell County and to keep the great State of Texas grand.”
