Good Friday Cross Walk set for April 18

Posted

Gatesville’s annual Good Friday Community Cross Walk, organized by Carlos Webb, will be held on April 18, to honor Good Friday and Easter.

The walk will begin at the First Methodist Church at 8:30 a.m. Participants of the event will walk three miles to Coryell Community Church, with many taking turns carrying a cross made of wood along the way.

The 10-foot-tall cross weighs approximately 100 pounds and is made up of 1x6 lumber.

During the walk, community members will pray for all surrounding schools and staff, the military, first responders (fire department, law enforcement, and EMS), the local judicial system and its leaders, state and federal leaders, and service organizations like Righteous Roots Crisis Resource Center, and the Hidden Gem Family Center.

If individuals are unable to walk, the community is also invited to attend the worship rally following the walk as well. The rally will be held in the prayer garden at Coryell Community Church. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Webb expressed that he is passionate about uniting churches and teaching people, young and old, to be a bold witness in their walk with Christ.

“The cross walk is important for several reasons,” Webb said. “It serves as a time of remembrance and celebration for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

The Bible verse related to the annual cross walk is Luke 9:23, “Then He said to them, whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

“Scripture (1 Corinthians 12:20) talks about one body with many parts, so this event serves as a symbol of unity by bringing our church bodies together to serve one God, regardless of denomination,” Webb said.
