Gatesville ISD Volunteer Spotlight: Friends on Duty

Posted

During the March 24 meeting of the Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees, Jason Olivar was included in the “spotlight.”

GISD Superintendent Dr. Barrett Pollard had the following to say about Olivar:

Adam Fitzer, our lead Friends on Duty (FOD), is here to recognize fellow FOD Jason Olivar. Jason was one of the five original members of the FOD program, which started in 2022. Since then, Mr. Olivar has donated countless hours of service to GISD and has gone as far as taking days off of work to be here for special events. Jason served as the FOD's training coordinator and was directly involved with the establishment of the FOD training requirements and standards. Mr. Olivar acquired and donated many medical supplies to the volunteer organization. Without reservation, Jason has purchased many items for the group refusing any reimbursement. He has lived the FOD Motto, Pro Filiis, or In Defense of the Children. Jason’s hard work, selfless service, and dedication to the FOD program has raised professionalism within their ranks as well as greater respect from the staff and the community.

Mr. Olivar is now working on becoming a Gatesville Police Officer. We know he will make an outstanding police officer, and we look forward to working with him in that capacity. We will now officially place Jason on inactive reserve status. However, he has an open invitation to come back and volunteer any time he wants.

Adam Fitzer commented, “He has raised professionalism within our ranks. He will be an outstanding police officer for Gatesville PD, and we look forward to working with him in that capacity.”
