During the Sept. 23 meeting of the Gatesville Independent School District Board of Trustees, one of the agenda items concerned the expiring terms of Charles Alderson and Linda Maxwell.
At the July board meeting, the trustees called for an election to be conducted on Nov. 5, 2024, for the purpose of electing two trustees for full three-year terms. During the July 22 to August 19 sign-up period, only the two incumbent candidates, Alderson and Maxwell, filed for a place on the ballot. No challengers filed for a place on the ballot, so there was no need for an election.
GISD superintendent, Dr. Barrett Pollard, said, “To initiate the cancellation process, I hereby certify that Charles Alderson and Linda Maxwell are unopposed for election to office for the election scheduled to be held on Nov. 5.”
Pollard continued, “Given that the board has received and accepted the certification that Charles Alderson and Linda Maxwell are unopposed, I recommend that the board issue an order declaring the election cancelled and the unopposed candidates elected. The board voted in favor of cancelling the election.”
Speaking of the two trustees, Pollard said, “Running unopposed is a testament to how exceptional they are as board members. I think the community trusts these long-time educators to always make the best decisions possible for students and staff, and their track record proves that.”
Certificates of election will be issued at the November board meeting.
