In a recent ceremony, representatives from Gatesville HEB presented a donation of $50,000 to the Friends of the Gatesville Public Library to replace books that were lost during the flooding of the library last September.

Angela Womack, top store leader at Gatesville HEB, said, “It’s really our honor to be here and to help out. We are a company that wants to be deeply rooted in our community and to give back. Anytime we see our communities go through tragedies, we want to step up in a big way. Gatesville holds a special place in our hearts, and when we learned about the challenges the library was facing, we wanted to help.”

Gatesville City Manager Brad Hunt said, “I have to admit that I got a little emotional at the check presentation from HEB. What an amazing group of people! HEB proved once again that they are true pillars of the community. Their donation of $50,000 to the Friends of the Library will support our continuing efforts to replace books and materials lost as a result of water and mold damage.”

Regarding the importance of the library, Womack said, “We realize that the Gatesville Public Library has been a cornerstone in this community since 1937 and, over the years, it has evolved into so much more than just a place to borrow books, but a hub for growing and connection and a place for children to discover the joy of reading and for adults to get new skills and where community members can get together.”

She continued, “What stood out to us was not just the damage, but the resilience of this community. At HEB, we believe in giving back to and investing in the community, and that’s why we are giving our gift of $50,000 to the Friends of the Gatesville Public Library.”

City Manager Hunt responded by saying, “Most people know I am rarely at a loss for words, but I cannot express enough appreciation for the support HEB has shown us.
