Folks Around Town

Posted

Say hello to our neighbor, Cassie Perez!

Cassie is the counselor at Gatesville Elementary School and also takes on the role of being the high school junior varsity cheer coach, while also assisting with the varsity cheer squad. She has been in the education field for eleven years with eight of those years spent teaching in the classroom, which included kindergarten, third grade, and fifth grade. She said that she loves working with students and collaborating with their teachers and families. “As a counselor, some days can be emotionally heavy,” she said. “Fortunately, I have the best support from the administrators on my campus and support from staff and administrators from across the district. It makes the hard days a little easier.” She expressed that she loves helping students through hard times and being someone they can trust and depend on. “Another thing I love about working in my hometown is being able to watch our students grow up and support them along the way,” she said. She has lived in Gatesville all her life and always knew Gatesville would be her home. “My favorite thing about Gatesville is the people that live here and the community we have built,” she said. “We look out for and help one another as much as we can. From sponsoring youth teams to donating to school and athletic fundraisers to Food for Family donation events...the Gatesville community always steps up and supports their own.”

Cassie reads The Gatesville Messenger and said, “The Gatesville Messenger helps our community stay connected. Although we live in a world full of constant news and social updates, the Messenger staff does a great job thoroughly reporting on things we may have only heard a little bit about.” She also mentioned that she appreciates the recognition that the students and athletes get from their hometown newspaper. “Reading the news from Mound and ‘Whatever Happened To’ are always interesting to read as well,” she said.

If you happen to see Cassie around town, say hello! She is one of us!
