The 4th annual Eldon Perkins Evant Cartel Redneck BBQ Cookoff will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Evant Municipal Park. There is no need to pre-register, just bring your pit and show up.
Categories include brisket, ribs, chicken, beans, appetizers, and dessert.
Entry Fees: $100 for all three meats (brisket, chicken, ribs); $10 jackpot for dessert; $10 jackpot for appetizer; $10 jackpot for beans.
Turn-in times: 11 a.m. for desserts; noon for appetizers; 1 p.m. for beans; 2 p.m. for chicken (1/2 chicken); 3 p.m. for ribs (any style); 4 p.m. for brisket.
Jackpot means winner-takes-all $1,500 added money. The Grand Champion wins $400.

First, second, and third place will be awarded in each meat category with a trophy and cash. You may cook with wood, charcoal, gas, wood pellets, or solar/nuclear/wind power – as long as it’s cooked. All entries must be cooked on site – no store-bought turn-ins. Chicken entries must be 165 degrees. No thick barbeque sauce (light glaze is okay).
