Cynthia Ann Botkin, age 84, of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Carlos Webb officiating. Interment followed at Flint Creek Cemetery.
Cynthia Ann Lam was born Saturday, Sept. 7, 1940, to the late George Stanley and Mary Olivia (Ola) Lam in Gatesville. She grew up in Gatesville with her brothers and sisters. She attended Gatesville High School where she was named Homecoming Queen and graduated in 1958. She married the love of her life, Gary Botkin Sr., on July 17, 1959. Gary and Cynthia made their home in every town Gary traveled to for work, before settling down in La Porte and later in Gatesville. Cynthia loved her family more than anyone could imagine. Her favorite titles in life were “Mom” and “Grandma.” She was the definition of a nurturer to all who crossed her path and even more so to her family. She loved babies and kids so much she made it her career by founding and operating Kids R Us Daycare in Gatesville, where she was known as the town Grandma. She retired from working and enjoyed many years of retirement, traveling with her husband and friends. She loved her Dallas Cowboys so very much and would never miss a game. Some of her most favorite times were Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Schlitterbahn trips, because she was with her family. She was most proud of her Gary, three children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Gary Botkin Sr., her parents, George Stanley and Mary Olivia Lam; brother and sisters Virgina (Chug) Cosgrove, George Lam Jr, Marshall (Dixie) Lam, Mary Ruth Lam, Jack Lam, and Sue Applegate.
She is survived by daughter, Lisa Gay Patterson and husband, Mike; sons, Gary Landon Botkin Jr. and wife, Lori, and Blake Botkin and wife, Samantha; brother H.M. Lam and sister, Jeanette Baize; grandchildren, Shane Patterson and wife, Casey, Heather Botkin, Jennifer Lejune and husband, Aubrey, Heath Patterson, Landon Botkin and wife, Quenna, Ashley Botkin, Kimberlyn Ask and husband, Hans, Austin Botkin, Rex Owen, and Miranda Owen; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Hataway, Adalyn Collier, William Lejune, Emma Lejune, Archer Lejune, Avery Patterson, Scarlett Monroe, Breck Ask, Reese Botkin, Landon Blake, Chandler Ask, Hayes Patterson, and Banks Ask.
