Certain federal and local government offices will close on Thursday for the mourning of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at 100 years old.

Coryell County Judge Roger Miller issued an order for the closing of all county offices and buildings on Thursday to honor the memory of the late president. The county will resume normal business hours on Friday.

The closures come after President Joe Biden issued an executive order on Dec. 30 declaring Thursday, Jan. 9, as a day of mourning out of respect for James Earl Carter, Jr., the 39th President of the United States.

The order states that all executive departments and agencies of the federal government will close on Thursday, except essential employees who work for national security or defense.

According to CBS News, post offices will be closed on Thursday, and most mail will not be delivered. Most banks and public schools will remain open since it is not an official federal holiday.

The day of mourning coincides with Carter’s funeral on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral.
