At a regular city council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, Gatesville’s new police chief, Jeffrey Clark, was sworn in under oath. Clark’s wife and daughter were present to pin his badge to his uniform.

Clark has served as deputy chief since 2016 and has spent his entire career in Temple. He has over 31 years of experience in law enforcement, with over 12 in a command-level position.

“I believe Jeff Clark is an excellent fit for the role of chief because I know he is a visionary leader who is committed to community, professionalism, and service,” City Manager Brad Hunt said.

During a community meet and greet at Gatesville City Hall on Nov. 7, Clark said one of his goals is to lead the Gatesville Police Department through the Texas Police Chief’s Association (TPCA) accreditation process, which he was also a part of at the Temple Police Department. He is also passionate about enhancing community policing efforts.

“He has a long track record of gaining the trust and respect of his subordinates and peers and has proven to be a team-builder throughout his career,” Hunt said.

“As I said previously, Chief Clark’s selection represents an exciting opportunity for the police department’s continued professional development and service to our community,” Hunt said. “I look forward to working with Chief Clark and supporting his goals for the Gatesville Police Department,” Hunt said.

Clark began his role as chief of police formally on Thursday, Dec. 12.
