Saturday is the day to be in Pearl. Be there because you don’t want to be square. I’ve reminded you in the past couple of Pearl News articles all about the big “Buy What You Want, Pay What You Want by the Box” sale at the Pearl Cottage Bookstore, so you already know that you don’t want to miss that. I also have already told you about the Bluegrass event where you can watch a stage show and jam for free and sign up for your band to play on stage for free, the unmatched food at the Bluegrass Kitchen for reasonable prices (cash only), and the opportunity to open a flea market-style booth around the cabin by the bookstore for only $5. Now, since you already know about these unparalleled opportunities, don’t you think you ought to be there? Take some friends and family with you. There’s no place like Pearl!
We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Gary Keeton, a deeply loved Pearl boy who loved this community with all his heart. Gary and his family, pillars of Pearl, are greatly missed and will always be cherished.
We also extend our deepest sympathy to David and Alex Scott in the loss of their mother and grandmother. Mr. Scott is a big supporter of the Pearl Cottage Bookstore and Pearl in general. His articles in The Gatesville Messenger about Pearl events are always greatly appreciated. His mother raised a good son!
Can you believe it is the last month of 2024? If you’re like me, you’re wondering where the year went. As we prepare for Christmas, let us never forget the reason for the season as they say. But it’s true. Of course, our Savior should always be at the forefront of our lives, and I hope that we reinforce our commitment and service to Him daily with scripture reading, doing good, and sharing with others. Even more, as Jesus has shown us, let us do so with JOY!
A funny Thanksgiving story from East Texas: My oldest granddaughter loves pumpkin pie, especially a certain brand. Well, that brand was difficult to find here in Nacogdoches this year. However, I called around and found several at one of the local stores here in Nacogdoches. I sent my son to pick them up and instructed him to go the freezer section for the Marie Yearly pies. Soon I got a call from the store with my son telling me that there were no Marie Yearly pies to be found. He said he even had the store manager look for them. I asked him to put the manager on the phone, and I told that manager that only two hours prior he had told me he had plenty in stock. The manager said he would look again, but he actually never heard of that brand. I soon got a call back from my aggravated son who asked, “Could you mean ‘Marie Callender?’” Well yes, yes, I could. Only I could go from Callender to Yearly in a matter of minutes and humiliate my poor child. The happy ending was that my sweet grand got plenty of pumpkin pie this year! The bad news: I may have lost my personal shopper, sigh.
This week’s Bible verse comes from Romans 12:2—Don’t copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. NLT
