Fort Cavazos and neighboring communities make up the Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership, including Gatesville, Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton, Salado, and Lampasas.

On Thursday, March 6, Mayor Gary Chumley, alongside the Garrison Commander, and other mayors and representatives from each surrounding community gathered at the Harris Community Center in Belton to sign a proclamation to recognize April as Sustainable Environment Month.

The ceremony recognized individuals and organizations from each partner community with the 2025 Cen-Tex Sustainable Community Partnership Environmental Ambassador Award, which Keep Gatesville Beautiful honorably received.

The Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership serves as a forum to combine regional sustainability efforts to improve the overall quality of life and economic vitality of the Central Texas region and its citizens.

The partnership also promotes events such as Gatesville Earth Day and Fort Cavazos Earth Day.
