55th annual Rattlesnake Roundup set for Feb. 22 & 23

The Oglesby Lions Club will host the 55th annual Rattlesnake Roundup, a snake show and vendor fair, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Oglesby Community Center, located at 118 Main Street in Oglesby.

General admission to the event will be five dollars per person.

Breakfast will be served each day on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The event will feature the Heart of Texas Snake Handlers with world famous Jackie Bibby to present live educational snake demonstrations. Live demonstrations will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., and on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.

Snake registration will be conducted on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and will cost five dollars. There will be bonus money for those who enter early. There are to be no professional snake hunters, a safety pledge must be signed, and a correct hunter’s license is required. There will be no snakes registered after 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The vendor fair will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 and from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23. The annual event typically has around 150 plus vendors on site each year.

There will be a train and buggy ride, a possible cornhole tournament, carnival games, clogging entertainment, and raffle prizes.

A car show will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the entrance fee will be $25 and will include cash prizes.

There will be a concession stand for food and beverages provided by multiple vendors as well.

Live entertainment will be provided during both days of the event. On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Lone Star Cloggers will perform from 10-11 a.m., and Ed Leonard and Friends will perform that day as well from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 23, Colin Dexter, also known as “The Man of Many Voices,” will perform from 1-4 p.m.

All proceeds from the event will be put toward the town of Oglesby. The Oglesby Lions Club plans to disperse the funds for local needs such as FFA scholarships, academic scholarships, community events, funds for school needs, and community needs.

Sara Johnson with the Oglesby Lions Club expressed that the annual event is a fun, community event for the whole family to enjoy and support the town.
