29th annual Fire Ant Tour set for June 14

The Gatesville Exchange Club will host its 29th annual Fire Ant Tour Saturday, June 14 at the Gatesville Civic Center, located at 301 Veteran’s Memorial Loop.

There was a total of 232 registrations with riders from all over Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Longview, Houston, and San Antonio at last year’s event.

The routes this year are approximately 11 miles, 32 miles, 50 miles, and a 100K that will take place on paved county roads. Riders can choose the course that best fits their pace on the morning of the ride.

All riders will be required to wear helmets and safety gear. E-bikes are welcomed and encouraged.

SAG (Support and Gear) stations will be placed at 10 to 13-mile intervals along each route. Porta-potties will also be available at all SAG stations, along with SAG wagons driving on each route to aid riders when necessary.

A SWAG bag will be given to each rider which will include a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize at the winner’s table. The bag will also have a free pass to the local fitness center for riders to gain access to a hot shower.

Early bird registration ended on March 28, and the cost is now $50 to register. The cost will rise $5 on May 9. Registration can be completed by visiting the Gatesville Fire Ant Tour Facebook page and clicking on the registration link.

Register by May 23 to guarantee a free Fire Ant Tour T-shirt.

Ride packets can be picked up at the Gatesville Civic Center Friday, June 13 from 4-7 p.m. Packet pickup and onsite registration can be done on the morning of the event June 14 from 6:15-7 a.m.

Onsite registration does not guarantee a finisher medal or Fire Ant Tour T-shirt.

The Fire Ant Tour will begin at 7:15 a.m., although riders can start at any time on their own up to 8 a.m. There will be no late starts after that time.

All proceeds from the event are to benefit local scholarships for Gatesville High School seniors and various community service projects.
