Volleyball team bounces back with road victory

Gatesville High shook off the lingering effects of a loss earlier in the week to down La Vega 3-0 Friday night.

The Hornets went on the road to win 25-12, 25-11, 25-11, improving to 17-11 overall and 2-1 in District 17-4A.

“A lot of times when you face teams that you are supposed to handle, you tend to lose focus and not play as well,” said Gatesville coach Rickey Phillips. “But that wasn’t the case tonight...our kids took care of business. We got the chance to play all of our kids a lot when things were still early and undecided, and that’s going to help us down the road.”

GHS built early leads in all three sets behind its serving strength, back-row passing and play up front.

Gatesville continues its road swing with a pair of trips next week - traveling to Hillsboro on Friday. Varsity starts at 7 p.m.on Friday. They were at Connally Tuesday.
