Tennis churns out qualifi ers for Bryan regional tourney

Gatesville High managed to garner three medal spots during the District 18-4A tournament that concluded Tuesday in Robinson.

Stormy Tatum had the biggest splash, sailing through undefeated to win girls’ singles. The freshman beat Watts of Lorena 6-1, 6-0, beat Dark of China Spring 6-0, 6-0, in the semis, and bested Oakley of China Spring 6-2, 6-2 in the fi nals.

She advances to the 4A-Region III tournament, which will be held Wednesday and Thursday, April 17-18, in Bryan.

In boys’ singles, Shy Tatum finished third after defeating Crow of Robinson 6-1, 6-0 and losing to Varga of China Spring 7-6, 6-2. He lost in the playback match 6-3, 6-3 to Perryman of Robinson.

The team of Rady Hollingsworth and Jaegar Smith placed fourth in mixed doubles. They beat Harris-Harris of Lorena 7-6, 6-3, then lost to Bradburn-Bevins of Robinson 6-2, 6-3 and Marascia-Tiederman of China Spring 6-4, 7-6 in the thirdplace match.
