Linebacker big hit with Tulsa
Cooper Edmiston circled the calendar when he found out the Tulsa University Hurricane was coming to Texas. For the 2016 Gatesville High School graduate, Saturday will be a big night. He’ll be wearing No. 42 when the Hurricane comes to Austin’s Darrell K. Royal-Memorial Stadium. It will be the fi rst meeting between the two Division I schools -- Tulsa and Texas. It’s an opportunity for Edmiston to show his tackling ability as a member of the Bronco Nagurski Watch List.
He’s up for the award that is given to the top linebacker in collegiate football. “It’s going to be tough, but we are excited,’’ said Edmiston, a four-year letterman and three-year starter for the Hornets. “I’m going to have a lot of family and friends there. It’s Texas and it’s going to be in a big stadium. We are just going to have to calm down.’’ Playing in front of thousands of fans is something players like Edmiston dream about. Edmiston is in his third year with Tulsa. He has played in 26 career games and has 13 starts going into the game with the Longhorns. He has 134 tackles in his career, including fi ve last week in the team’s win over Central Arkansas. Contact and banging pads has long been something Edmiston has enjoyed.
