Hornets volleyball rallies against Taylor

Gatesville overcame a first-set loss to win three in a row and take down Taylor on the road Tuesday night in a non-district volleyball game. Playing before a boisterous crowd, the Hornets let a 24-20 lead slip from their grasps in the 24-26 openingset loss. Gatesville went on to win the next three 25-17, 25-23, 25-17 for its 12th victory in the last 15 tries. “It was a great atmosphere and very live gym with a playoff feel...kind of like us playing at home most nights,’’ Gatesville coach Rickey Phillips said.

“That rattled some of our kids, but fortunately we had some other step up and deliver in big situations. Our serving was key again...Kids did a tremendous job of understanding Taylor’s weaknesses and took it to them in that regard.’’
