Hornets race in Waco

Gatesville’s cross country team competed at the Waco Midway meet Thursday. The varsity girls are coming off a tie for second-place as a team in the 1A-4A division at the Temple Pro-Invite meet. Katrina Thoms was third overall with a time of 13:0.23. Tasha Thoms was fifth overall with a 13:21.6 clocking. The team tied with Lago Vista with 70 points. Salado was first with 61 points led by junior Jaci McGregor with a 12:34.6 time. Freshman Lacy Campos is coming on strong already after her not running cross country as an eighth grader, said coach Elliot Kelley. The freshmen are contributing big on the girls’ side right now including Campos, Payton Armstrong, and Grace Penrod, Kelley said. Penrod was 11th overall with a time of 13:48.8. Campos ran a 14:29.0 for 25th overall.
