Hornets drop contests in tournament

Gatesville is young and learning on the football fi eld this spring.

The team hosted a 16-team 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament for Division II teams Saturday and took some lumps.

The Hornets went 0-3 in the tournament, losing to Little River Academy (56-0), Early and Waco La Vega (33-6).

“We’ve gone 1-5 in tournaments and we’re struggling a little bit,’’ Gatesville coach Kyle Cooper said. “We’ve got two young quarterbacks and they’re learning.’’

The Hornets have Wesley Brown and Logan Edwards sharing the quarterbacking duties. Both will be sophomore when the Hornets report for the 2019 season in August.
