Gatesville piles up 111 points to take third

Gatesville High accumulated 111 points for a third-place finish at the annual Gatesville Hornet Relays on Thursday. The Hornets effort was bested by only meet-champion Lorena (147) and runner-up McGregor (127) in the seven-team fi eld. Gatesville managed four gold medals by four different athletes. Jordan Morse won the pole vault at 9-feet in her only attempt. Distance runner Katrina Thoms ran 2:30 in the 800 meters to take a fi rst place. Sprinter Sarah Brock sped to the tape in 13.21 in the 100 meters for a victory. Alayna Washington posted a time of 1:01 in winning the 400 meters. The Hornet junior varsity tallied 110 points for a third-place fi nish. Sydney Gilbreath took third in the 100 meters at 13.34. Thoms was third in the 400 meters at 1:05.16 In the 300 hurdles, Tasha Thoms was fi fth at 53.88. In the throwing events, Sage Carson led the way with a fourth in the shot at 34-5 1/2 and a second in the discus at 107-0. Kaylee Jaynes was third in shot at 35-0 and fourth in discus at 89-2.
