Gatesville learning on the run

Hornets try to build confidence in young team by establishing ground game

The Hornets’ plan for success isn’t going to happen over night, but coach Luke Howard said the Hornets will hit the fi eld in these early games with confi dence and continue to build.

Sophomores Wesley Brown and Hayden Mooney are two athletes with potential for success.

Brown ran the team at quarterback and Mooney was solid as a runner, receiver and making tackles on defense.

“Obviously, he (Brown) has some things to work on, but I really like the way he works and wants to learn,’’ Gatesville coach Luke Howard said. “He has a high ceiling and he’s only going to get better.’’

Brown scored once and had 89 yards on 13 carries against Midlothian Heritage in the opener. He runs the option well and showed the speed to fi nd separation.
