Gatesville buries La Vega early
Now that’s an inning. Gatesville scored a run a minute, batting through the order to take command Tuesday night in its District 17-4A softball game with the La Vega Pirates in Waco. Gatesville scored 10 runs in the first inning, sending the Hornets to a 13-0 win at La Vega Tuesday night.
Gatesville collected 17 hits and drew six walks in the game, which ended after fi ve innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Hornets wasted little time in their half of the first, sending 15 batters to the plate during the 10-run explosion. Kennedy Berry and Haley Nichols had two hits each during the uprising. Berry (4-4, 2 RBI, 3B, 3 runs) had a run-scoring triple early and added a single later in the frame, while Nichols (3-4, 5 RBI, two 3B) had a single and triple that each brought in teammates.
