Evant pounds inside for victory
Evant’s Luke Parrish hit his first two perimeter shots. After that the Elks concentrated on the inside game in taking a 53-29 victory over the rival Jonesboro Eagles Tuesday night in a key District 17-1A game.
“I think defensively as a team we are beginning to really understand what we want to do,’’ Evant coach Shawn Harrison said. “If we play team defense and continue to rebound, we will continue to be successful.’’
The Elks dominated the rebounding with a 44-29 advantage led by Nate Reed and Parrish with 10 apiece.
The Elks jumped out early in the home game and never trailed.
Parrish’s sweet jumper just 14 seconds into the game gave the Elks an early 3-0 lead. Then he hit another three from the right wing to push the score to 6-2.
The Elks pushed the early lead to 13-2 before Jonesboro made a run to cut the lead to 13-6 when Ty Green hit an inside shot with seven seconds left in the first quarter.
