Jeremiah Marwitz and the Evant Elks are 8-1 with two games remaining after Tuesday’s 58-36 win over Lometa. Marwtiz scored 17 points in the win.
Evant picks up winning pace
Evant has established the inside game in its run through District 17-1A, but Tuesday night they played a solid upbeat game getting the ball rolling. Senior Jeremiah Marwitz was seven of 15 shooting for the game and finished with 17 points as the Elks coasted to a 58-36 win. They are 8-1 in district while Priddy is 9-1 with Jonesboro in third place with five district wins. Nate Reed and Luke Parrish were their usual selves combining for 35 points and 19 rebounds. Evant hit 24 of 51 shots for the game and pulled down 37 rebounds. Lometa led 27-23 at halftime before the Elks got rolling with a 16-4 run in the third quarter. “We play better when Jeremiah pushes the ball,’’ Evant coach Shawn Harrison said. “He likes to go faster.’’ Marwitz had an inside shot to tie the game at 27 early in the third and Parrish hit a corner jumper midway through the third to put the Elks in the lead for good at 30-27. They led 39-31 going into the fourth quarter. Marwitz hit eight of his points in the fourth quarter. Evant has remaining games with Cherokee (Friday) and Cranfills Gap at Evant on Tuesday. Evant is 8-1 in district with the lone loss to Priddy.
