Evant girls close out with win
Evant’s eight girls battled to the end and were rewarded Tuesday night with their second victory of the season.
The Lady Elks beat playoff-bound Lometa, 28-27, on the strength of seven 3-pointers by four different players. Six-foot freshman Kendy Harrell finished with 12 points and made a 3-point from the wing with 1:17 left to tie the game. With 51 seconds left, she hit one of two free throws for the game winning point.
Lometa managed two shots in the final seconds but neither connected.
“The girls played a great game,’’ said fi rst-year Evant head coach Holly Kampmeier. “The girls have improved tremendously since day one and they will continue to improve. They have worked hard all year and they never quit.’’
The team, which included one senior, one sophomore and six freshmen, finished with a 2-23 record.
The beat Cranfills Gap on Dec. 14 for their other victory. The scorers for the Lady Elks were: Kendy Harrell with 12, Caeleigh Burkham six, Jazz De Los Santos three, Emma Martin three, Cassie Myers three and Kacy Maurer one point.
