Evant brings speed to quick start on season

Evant is off and running this season.

The Elks, who advanced their 4x400 relay to the state track and field meet last season, have those four key players back for the football season.

So far, they are taking the running to heart.

“It’s been exciting,’’ Evant coach Phillip Martin said. “We’re a track team with pads. Six-man is real wide open, but we try to play a more physical game.’’

Making big strides are the foursome of quarterback Jeremiah Marwitz, wide receiver Ethan Martin, wide receiver Colton McCann and running back Joaquin Martinez. It’s the same four that torched the track to state.

“It’s hard to say who is the fastest,’’ said Martin, who is in his fourth year as head coach of the Elks. “We are pretty balanced. It helps to have that speed.’’
