Wayne Williams, age 77, of Gatesville, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, in Temple.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at Gateway Baptist Church, with Pastor Michael Bragdon officiating. Interment followed with full military honors and Masonic Rites at Restland Cemetery.

Robert Wayne Williams was born on August 19, 1944, in Montgomery, Louisiana, to the late Earl and Mable Jowers Williams. He graduated from Montgomery High School and then entered the U.S. Army. He married Patricia Jean Lawson on Nov. 3, 1971. He served two tours in Vietnam and retired as a SFC in 1986 at Ft. Hood, with 22 years of military service. He then went to work at Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer, until his retirement in 2010, with 24 years of service. Wayne was a member of Gateway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca Renae Williams in 2015; siblings, Elaine Mitchell, Virgil Williams, Allen Williams, Charles Williams, Leonard Williams, J. B. Williams, Mervin Williams and Irvin Williams.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Williams; son, Mark Williams; brother, Marlin Williams and wife, Susie; two grandchildren, Tori Williams, Ray Robles; two great-grandchildren, Livi Kate and Lawson Wallace.
