Wanda Vega, age 61, of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Cornerstone Church, 338 State School Road in Gatesville, with Pastor Greg Demmit officiating. Interment will follow at Weaver Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Wanda Lois Vega was born on August 1, 1960, in Stanton to the late Howard Chief and Rose Roberts Klutts. She grew up in Midland, moving to Gatesville as a child. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1979. She received a degree in nutrition and dietetics from Texas State Technical College in Waco. She worked at numerous restaurants and Coryell Memorial Hospital. She also worked for many years at H.E.B. and Wal-Mart. She married Sam Vega in October of 1978. Her joy was being a cook, preparing tamales and baking with her family. She was an active member of Cornerstone Church, where she served as a Women of Worship member and volunteered at the Gatesville Care Center.

She was preceded in death by stepfather, Ronald Hendrix; sisters, Joy Klutts and Dolores (Sissy) Haupt.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Sam Vega; children, Jose Vega and wife, Rosa, Dove Briseno, Tasha Sanchez and husband, Roberto, Gabriela Vega, Joseph Klutts-Aguilar, Christian Acosta; sisters, Rose Mary DeChaume and husband, Booger, Duly Scalzo and husband, Steve, Lorrie Bland; brothers, Ronald Green, Howard Gene Klutts and wife, Tammy, Skinner Klutts, Reuben Hendrix and wife, Kim; seven grandchildren, Franco Vega, Dove Del Rio, Laura Vega, Claudia Martinez, Lorinda Martinez, Bryson Briseno, Eric Vega; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Adalyn Del Rio; and her best friend, Mary Breshears and husband, Tom.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Cornerstone Church, 338 State School Rd., Gatesville, Texas 76528.
