Tommie Lee Shults Haferkamp
Virginia Tommie Lee Shults Haferkamp, age 91, known as Tommie Lee to family, Tommie to friends and Gran to her grandchildren, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, June 1, 2019.
Funeral services were held on June 4, 2019, at Scotts Funeral Home.
Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Tommie Lee was born Nov. 23, 1927, in the Owl Creek Community in what is now Fort Hood, to parents Thomas Shults and Lucinda Virginia Powell Shults. She married Verna Willie Haferkamp on Dec. 13, 1947, and they made their home in the Gatesville area. She graduated from Gatesville High School at age 16 and went to work for local attorney, Robert Brown. She worked for the Texas Youth Council for many years and retired from the Texas Department of Corrections. An accomplished seamstress, her favorite pastimes were sewing, crocheting, reading and writing poetry and short stories.
She was preceded in death by husband, Verna Haferkamp; parents, Thomas Shults and Virgie Shults; brother, J.W. Shults; and sister, Oneta Shults Bates.
Tommie Lee is survived by daughter, Diane Haferkamp Flowers, of Dallas; son, Lynn Haferkamp, of Gatesville; grandchildren, Michael Flowers, of Dallas, Macie Haferkamp Chrisman, of Cuero, and Rowdy Haferkamp, of Cuero; two great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Pearl Shults Cathey, of Duncanville and numerous nieces and nephews.
