Teddy Joe Wright, age 72 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery in Purmela. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the funeral home.

Ted was born on Dec. 12, 1949, in Gatesville, to the late Vernon and Clara Blankenship Wright. He grew up in and attended schools in Purmela, Pearl and Gatesville. His early adult life consisted of construction work and later, custom farming with his brother, Bill Wright, and construction superintendent, with Jerry Wright Homes. For the last 15 years of his life, he and his dog, Boots, operated his son Jerry’s cattle operation. Ted enjoyed fishing on the Leon River and spent his whole life playing dominoes with his brother Bill Wright, until his death.

He was preceded in death at a young age by his father, Vernon Wright; mother, Clara Wright Durham; brother, Bill Wright; and a sister, Patsy Marriott.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Christi Smalley and husband, Cory; sons, Jerry Wright and wife, Tammy, Jason Wright; grandchildren, Kelsie Smalley and fiancé, Dylan Cosper, Payden Smalley, Lexie Smalley, Cadence Smalley, Jace Wright, Jordy Haigood and husband, Clay, and Jett Wright; and one great-granddaughter, Delanie Smalley; and soon to be on June 19, great-grandson, Hayes Haigood.
