Sally (Lela Mae) Withrow McMillian, age 90, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Monday Aug. 8, 2022, at Providence Hospice at St. Catherine’s. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church in Valley Mills under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Interment was at the Valley Mills Cemetery.
Sally was born on April 26, 1932, in Bosqueville, to Harmon Otto and Georgia Bell (Slough) Willingham. One of her fondest memories as a young child, living near Blackland Air Force Base at Bosqueville, was when President Truman’s plane landed there, and his car drove by their house. Sally waved at him, and he waved back. She started school in Valley Mills and later graduated at Waco Tech High School. She married George McMillian on July 19, 1993. He preceded her in death in 2020. Sally had previously worked at Texas Life Insurance, Waco Savings and Loan, Waco Fire Dept. for 11 years as secretary to Chief Summary and retired from TDCJID in Gatesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Elizabeth Jobe, Charlotte Pack, Opal Jones, Ellen Jiggs Mitchell, Dola Willingham, Sarah Willingham; brothers, Harmon, Norval, Harlan, Sherman, Leland Willingham.
She is survived by her children; son, Lemuel Richard Withrow and wife, Kathy Ann; daughter, Kathy Lynn Withrow; grandchildren, Lynn Price, Tiffany Mixon and husband, Brent, Megan Lynch and husband, Johnny, Alex Withrow and wife, Kassy; great-grandchildren, Emily, Luke, Ayda, Levin, Natalie, Layla, Delila, Nathan, and Samuel. And her beloved cat Itabit. She had many favorite nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.
Mom had a fun spirit, loved to laugh, and enjoyed living in Gatesville where she was able to sit on her porch and watch everyone go by.
