A graveside service for longtime real estate appraiser Ray Allen, of Lampasas, was held Oct. 27 at Pidcoke Cemetery with Jim Rutland officiating. Sneed Funeral Chapel handled arrangements. Mr. Allen died in Temple on Oct. 24, 2017, at the age of 90. He was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Pidcoke, to Kyle B. and True (Thompson) Allen. He attended Pidcoke and Gatesville schools until volunteering for the Army Air Force shortly before graduation in 1945. Mr. Allen received his GED while in the Army Air Force and served until 1947. He married his sweetheart, Jewel Annis Allen, on April 11, 1946. In 1950, they settled in Lampasas, where Mr. Allen was employed by Cameron Lumber Co. He became vice president of Lampasas Federal Savings and Loan Association, with which he had been associated since 1958. He ended his career with that firm in 1982. Mr. Allen served on the Lampasas City Council from 1969- 1976. He was also an FHA and VA real estate appraiser. He stayed active coaching baseball, was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an enthusiastic fan of Texas Longhorn football. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Allen Albrecht and by a brother, Gerald Allen, of Harker Heights. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ray Allen Jr. and wife, Twila, of Belton, Kyle L. Allen of Richland Springs and Christopher Allen and wife, Cindy, of Austin; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl Wade Allen and wife, Wanda, of Pidcoke. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lampasas Golf Association.
