Mildred Dale Kirkpatrick Byrom McIver, age 96, of Gatesville, passed away November 14, 2022. A private family ceremony will be held to honor her.

Mildred was born in Gatesville on June 13,1926, to Robert Edgar and Vonna Mae Duncan Kirkpatrick. She graduated as salutatorian from Gatesville High School in 1943 and then attended Sam Houston State University. Her education there was interrupted when she returned home to be with her parents following the death of her brother in World War II. Upon returning to Gatesville, Mildred worked at Lone Star Gas Company and then the National Bank of Gatesville. In 1946 she married another Gatesville banker, Ray Byrom. They were blessed with three children, Sue, Jan, and David. After her children were in school, Mildred returned to banking at the Guaranty Bank of Gatesville (later Extraco). She and the bank “girls” became life-long friends. Following Ray’s death, Mildred married Q.A. (Pete) McIver. They enjoyed many happy years together. After Pete’s death, Mildred continued to work at Extraco as an officer and vice president and finally as head of their travel club. After her retirement, she joined several bridge clubs where she formed many wonderful friendships. Over the last few years, she had developed many treasured relationships with the staff and fellow residents of Coryell Health.

“Mibs”, “Mana” wasn’t the queen of any country, but she was definitely the queen of our family. With her love of shoes and beautiful things, she kept this rowdy bunch somewhat civil! We will forever miss her guidance and sweet comfort.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Vonna Kirkpatrick; brothers, Doyle Kirkpatrick, Lloyd Neil Kirkpatrick, Duncan Kirkpatrick; husband, Ray Byrom; husband, Q.A. (Pete) McIver; and much loved daughter, Jan Byrom Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Dixon and husband, Ronnie; son, David Byrom and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Julie Dixon, Haley Dixon Laskowski and husband, Brad, Brandon Smith and wife, Elizabeth, Kendra Byrom, Krista Byrom McFarlin and husband, Cody, and Kolten Byrom; great-grandchildren, Cort Reinarz, Case Reinarz, Gage Laskowski, Grant Laskowski, Nathan Smith, Ian Smith, Catherine Smith, Hannah Gustin, Ella Campbell Gustin, Graham Barron, Preston Barron, Audrey Barron, Landri McFarlin, Gentri McFarlin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
