Juanita Erwin, age 90, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, in Gatesville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Gene Long officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27th at the funeral home.

She was born on July 4, 1931, in Coryell City to the late Williard and Myrtia VanDyke Long. She grew up and went to school in Gatesville. She married J.W. (Jake) Erwin in 1947. She was a den mother, Brownie leader, and a room mother for her children during their childhood. When she was the age of 60, she started her G.E.D. classes and graduated head of her class. Her hobbies included painting, genealogy, writing stories and poetry. She taught several of her grandchildren how to paint. When she was in her 80s, she recorded a song that she wrote. Above all her interests, she loved researching and sharing genealogy with her family. She was a positive influence on anyone she met. She loved God, her family and her family loved her.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.W. (Jake) Erwin in 2015; stepfather, Marvin Hughes; and son-in-law, George Bonham.

Juanita is survived by her son, Gary Erwin and wife, Sandra; daughter, Debbie Bonham; brother, Bill Long and wife, Myrtle Pollard Long; eight grandchildren, Thomas Erwin, Majel Glasscock, Jerrad Erwin, Nathan Bonham, Jennifer Davis, Jason Erwin, Emily Erwin, Natalie Erwin; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
