John Edward Bannert
John Edward Bannert, age 88, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church in Gatesville with the Rev. Tim Crosby officiating. John was born on May 9, 1929, in Irving, Texas, to Adolf William and Helen Martha Bannert. He was raised in Gatesville and the Rio Grande Valley where John graduated from Brownsville High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. John moved to Houston to further his education and there met the love of his life, Donna Gale Bell. They were married on June 22, 1957. He passed away just one day shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. After John graduated from the University of Houston in 1959, and spent his career working for General Motors. He retired from General Motors in 1987 and moved to Almosta Ranch near Hamilton, Texas. John was a master craftsman. There was no task too difficult for John to accomplish. Though his specialty was repairing and rebuilding automobiles, he also could pour concrete, repair appliances; renovate homes—whatever was needed. He had the gift of service, and he used it to serve his family, church and neighbors. John’s lifelong commitment to follow Jesus as his Lord and Savior led him to serve in many churches as a deacon, and also at the state women’s prison at Mt. View. John was utterly devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He sacrificially gave of his time and talents to help them all fulfill their life-dreams. His greatest legacy as a Christian is now found in his children and grandchildren who loved the Lord and follow Him. John is survived by his wife, Donna Gale Bell Bannert; daughters, Karen Lynn Bannert Morrow and Katherine Gale Bannert Edwards; sons, John Edward Bannert Jr. and Karl William Bannert and their spouses; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
