Hedye “Jonell” Cockrell Palmer
Jonell "Jo" Palmer passed away suddenly on Monday, June 3, 2019, after being hospitalized briefly in Lewisville.
A memorial service and interment will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, where she will be placed alongside her "Honeybunch," Clyde Douglas Palmer, in their forever home. (Columbarium Section AI, Row C, Site 31)
Jonell was born to the late Hettie Elizabeth and T. F. Cockrell Sr. and raised in the Owl Creek area in what is now North Fort Hood. She was the eighth of 10 children and is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Douglas Palmer, whom she met and married Dec. 18, 1954, while he was stationed at the Fort Hood Army Base.
She is also preceded in death by brothers, R. T. "Buck" and Larry Cockrell; as well as sisters, Faye Murry and Dorothy Jones.
Jonell is survived by a son, Clark Palmer, of Denver, CO; and daughter, Pamela Palmer, of The Colony; three stepgrandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; as well as five siblings, brothers, T. F. Cockrell Jr. (aka Son or Tuffy), of Hurst, and Samuel "Sammy" Cockrell, of Gatesville; and three sisters, Edna Potvin, of Killeen, Mable Benski, of Bowie, and Ferne Belknap, of Gatesville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and greatnephews.
Jonell loved travelling America with her "honeybunch" and was a "people person.” She had a smile for everyone and her spirit was contagious. She will be missed and forever in our hearts.
