Harvey White, age 88, of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Gatesville.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 9, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Bragdon and Rev. Tim Crosby officiating. Interment followed at Restland Cemetery. 

Harvey Gene White was born on Feb. 2, 1934, in Coryell County to the late Floyd and Ora Bales White. He spent his early childhood in the Spring Hill community, now part of Ft. Hood and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1951. Harvey spent his childhood and early adult years traveling back and forth from Gatesville to Ft. Worth, developing his “horse trading” skills at the Ft. Worth Stockyards. He later worked at Watt’s Meat Market delivering meat. He married Linda Barton on June 27, 1964. They have enjoyed 57 years of marriage and were blessed with a daughter, Greta.

Harvey worked at TYC and TDCJ for a combined period of 28 years, mostly as a laundry manager. He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books, antique car shows and talking with friends about old times. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play ball. His greatest joy was listening to his daughter play the piano in church. He was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. He was a true southern gentleman. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Juanita Dixon and her husband, R.A. Dixon.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Linda White; daughter, Greta Casas and husband, Ezequiel; six grandchildren, Ezequiel Casas and wife, Malissa, Daniel Casas and wife, Alison, Joshua Casas and wife, Leslie, Nicholas Casas, Josiah Casas, Stephanie Montalvo; and three great-grandchildren.
