Curtis Allan Skipping

September 22, 1936 – July 31, 2022

Curtis Allan Skipping passed from this life on July 31, 2022, at age 85. He was born on Sept. 22, 1936, to Charles and Lois Skipping, two longtime educators in central and west Texas. He graduated from Iraan High School in 1955, having competed on the 1954 State Champion Golf Team. He went on to attend Sul Ross State College and then earned his letter for golf at Tarleton State in 1957. However, science was his true calling, and he ultimately earned his master’s degree from Louisiana Tech in microbiology. Curtis then spent his career in the lab serving the Rio Grande Valley community at McAllen Medical Center. Living in the Rio Grande Valley provided year-round golf opportunities to Curtis, and he didn’t give up his clubs until well into his 70s.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lois Skipping and survived by his dear wife of 57 years, Dana Skipping, now in Gatesville. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Skipping, of Copperas Cove, as well as two daughters and a son, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

We consider ourselves sincerely blessed who could call him husband, father, brother and Poppa. A memorial service will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m.
