Bennie H. Schraeder, age 91, of Coryell City, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, in Waco.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City, with Pastor Christopher Richmann officiating. Burial followed at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Schraeder was born on April 18, 1927, in Coryell County, to the late August G. and Bertha Gaskamp Schraeder. He was Baptized and Confi rmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church. He married Mildred Helm on May 9, 1953. Together they made their home in the Coryell City area, where he farmed and drove a grain truck for Raymond Buth. He also worked for the State School for Boys until 1971 when he began working for the Coryell County Road and Bridge Department until his retirement in 1989. He loved working in his garden, tinkering with old plows and having family get-togethers. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, of 58 years in 2011; son-in-laws Donny Brown and Kenneth Rhoades; granddaughter, Amberly Schraeder; grandson, Roger Horsley; three brothers; and three sisters.
Bennie is survived by his four daughters, Betty Ayers, Joyce Rhoades, Janet Ayres and Sandra Brown, all of Gatesville; two sons, Donald Schraeder and wife, Lydia of Huntsville, Larry Schraeder and wife, Jodi of Cleburne; sister, Emma McDougal of Clifton; brother-in-law, Virgil Helm and wife, Wanda of DeSoto; sister-in-laws, Irene Helm and Eloise Schraeder of Gatesville; 13 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
