Gatesville cross country checks out Old Settlers course in Round Rock
The Gatesville cross country teams will travel to Round Rock to test the Old Settlers Park layout this Saturday. Gatesville hopes to return to the site in November when the University Interscholastic League hosts the state meet at Old Settlers Park. The Hornets competed well at last week’s Sept. 21 meet at Salado. The boys were fourth and the girls sixth, respectively.
Winning the Class 4A division was Liberty Hill with 37 points. Gatesville scored 97 points for fourth. Salado and Lampasas squeezed in ahead of the Hornets. Riley McClure led the Hornets with a eighth-place fi nish in 18:21. Hornet Baylee Ivy was 10th at 18:43. Other Gatesville top finishers were Miles Barnes, 19th at 19:47; Aaron James, 26th at 20:20; Mason Edwards, 38th at 21:05; Jorge Gamez, 42nd at 21:44; and David Peek, 45th at 22:00. China Spring’s Bryce Girard was the No. 1 fi nisher in 17:26. In the girls’ division, Jaci McGregor of Salado took the top spot with a 12:37 time in a two-mile layout. Katrina Thoms topped the Hornets with a third pace fi nish in 13:12. Liberty Hill won the girls’ division with 37 points. Gatesville was sixth at 153. The Gatesville top fi nishers were Thoms (3rd at 13:12), Kiana Taff (25th at 14:47), Sidney Gilbreath (36th at 15:36), Caitlyn Chacon (42nd at 15:58), Bailee Armstrong (47th at 15:16), Katie Ferguson (49th at 16:36), Cadence Smalley (50th at 16:41) and Rianna Dunahoo ran a 17:31.
