Gatesville native edits/publishes new book

Gatesville native Bob Brown is making waves in the world of political satire.

Brown, who published and edited the book “Alternative Truths” with science fi ction author Phyllis Irene Radford, currently resides in Benton City, WA, but can trace his roots back to Gatesville through several generations.

“I graduated from Gatesville High School in 1976 and my great-greatgrandfather lived mom is from here and met my father at Fort Hood. I love this area.”

Brown says the idea for the book, an anthology of short stories that refl ects on post-election America, stemmed from responses he received to a story he wrote on President Trump’s inauguration.

“I got asked to do an anthology and gave myself a deadline of 100 days to do it,” laughs Brown. “I asked Phyllis to do it with me and [Brown’s publishing company] B-Cubed Press was born.

“I told her, if you help me with this, I’ll give you fi rst billing!”

Brown credits a number of Facebook groups geared towards authors and editors as his means of gathering the short stories and essays that make up “Alternative Truths.”

“I already knew a lot of the writers that contributed, but I posted about the project on Facebook and got responses,” Brown explained.

Upon its release, “Alternative Truths” solidifi ed its spot as a political fi ction best seller.

The book peaked at number one in the science fi ction anthology genre and reached within the top 220 books in the nation.

“On our best day, we sold 481 copies in one day,” Brown mused.

Along with Radford, the publishing duo decided to donate 10 percent of the profi ts to the American Civil Liberties Union in Washington. Brown reported the fi rst installment check totaled $451. B-Cubed Press plans on releasing a follow-up to “Alternative Truths” in November, as well as a slew of other titles. “The sequel is the last overtly political book we’re doing,” admitted Brown.

“Next, we’re working on a science fi ction series called ‘Cosmic Caravans’ that focuses on grades 3-6.

“There’s an absence of good science being taught to kids that age.”
