Rare disorder unites three local children
In a world full of coincidences, Gatesville can count itself as home to one of the biggest.
Logan Schaal, Kegan Redford and Logan Ewing are three lively, active 7-year-olds who all attend the same school in Gatesville, are in the same grade and were once on the same t-ball team.
They also happen to share one other thing in common-- they all three have the same incredibly rare immunodeficiency disease, X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia.
“There are only a couple hundred people in the world who have it,” said Marsha Schaal, Logan Schaal’s mother. “I’ve had a doctor pull out his phone and Google it in front of me.”
“The Immune Deficiency Foundation is really intrigued by us,” admitted Holly Redford, Kegan’s mom. “They’ve never seen two, much less three, kids in a 100-mile radius that have it and aren’t siblings.”
