Belva Jean Knight
Belva Jean Knight, of Gatesville, died August 30, 2017, at Hillside Medical Lodge in Gatesville, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Gatesville. Belva was born in Jonesboro, TX, to the Rev. James D. Walsh and Ina Fae (Thompson) Walsh on August 7, 1933. Belva attended schools in Jonesboro and was an all-county guard in basketball in 1950. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1950. Belva married Horace Reese Knight Sr. on August 12, 1950. Belva Owned Belva’s Beads and Burr’s. She was active in the Methodist Church and was the first person to win the Central Texas Conference Bishop’s Award. Belva was the executive director for the Gatesville Care Center from April 1987 to January 2000. She was honored as the Gatesville Citizen of the Year in 1989. Belva was preceded in death by her husband, Horace; her parents; and infant son, Jimmy Don Knight. Belva is survived by sons, Reese and wife, Martha of Robinson and Hal and wife, Karen of Moody; and grandchildren, Will, Heather, James, Trey, John Luke and Matthew.
