Young Tigers win season opener 27-6

Oglesby Junior High Tigers defeated Covington Owls 27-6 last Thursday.

The JH Tigers led for the entire game and every Tiger had playing time in this season opener. Aiden Oxford led all rushers and scorers, with three touchdown runs of 40, 35 and 50 yards respectively. Oxford had six carries for 150 yards rushing for the night.

Holdyn Goff scored three points after – two running the ball in, and one on a pass to Blayze Fisher for the conversion. Goff was 1/1 on passing attempts with a 20-yard touchdown toss to Mason Marquez in the end zone for the score. Goff had four carries for 21 yards. Kayson Campbell had three carries for 27 yards, including an 18-yard kickoff return. Mason Marquez had one catch for 20 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.

Jaxon Markum, Kayson Campbell and Mason Marquez blocked well and opened up holes all night for the running backs to set up scoring drives for the Tigers. QB Abram Shaw was flawless in pitches and handoffs to running backs setting up scoring drives.

Defensively for Tigers, Kayson Campbell led all tacklers with seven tackles. Holdyn Goff had five tackles and one knocked-down pass in secondary. Mason Marquez, three tackles; Aiden Oxford, one QB sack for 10-yard loss, one assist; Jaxson Markum, two assists; Jayce Aaron, two tackles.

The Tigers JH team were set to host Kopprell at 6 p.m. Sept. 15.
