Weekend storm causes damage at Gatesville Airport

Last Friday, May 28, a severe thunderstorm hit Coryell County, causing strong winds to damage at least four different aircrafts stored at the Gatesville Municipal Airport. The storm also caused damage to some of the storage facilities where the main hangars are located.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southwestern McLennan County, Central Coryell County, Northern Bell County, and Central Falls County just before a storm hit the county that included heavy rain, hail, strong winds and lightning.

The storm caused many roads throughout Coryell County to be closed due to flooding or high water in the low water crossings.

Trees were uprooted throughout the county and small structures, such as metal carports, were crumpled and damaged. The heavy rain mixed with hail in some parts of the county were blamed for a few vehicle accidents reported during the time of the storms.
